Executive Summary
The use of Generative Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday school life for students, teachers, and leaders. While it can help reduce workload and has the potential to support teaching and learning, we also heard concerns about potential negative impacts on students and their development of key skills like critical thinking. Most schools remain in the early stages of responding to AI, unplanned, rather than strategic, and often relying on individual teachers to determine how and when it should be used. Schools are also grappling with challenges around reliability, accuracy, and appropriate use. There is an urgent need for a more coherent system-wide approach to help schools use AI safely, consistently, and effectively, to enhance teaching and learning.
